(#1) When is Jesus coming back?

Matthew 24:36 says … no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

(#2) Why do bad things happen?

Humans have the gift of free-will. We can choose to hurt or rob someone, and God will not intervene or obstruct our free-will choices. – Also, the natural world is “broken.” Earthquakes, rain & cancer are simply the results of a broken world in action (similar to human free-will); and not the actions of God. – Lastly, there are real consequences of sin. And sometimes we pay for the consequences of someone else’s sin. If our president initiates war with Canada, and Canada retaliates by dropping a bomb on Atlanta, we are suffering the consequences of someone else’s decisions.

(#3) Why did God create Satan?

Isaiah 14:12 says that God created an angel (Lucifer) that rebelled against Him. God didn’t create Satan, He created an angel with free-will that made poor choices.

The book of Revelation says Satan will be held accountable for his actions (hell), even though he currently has free-will reign on earth.

(#4) What does God want from me?

Matthew 22:37 says … Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ … & ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’- - 1 Timothy 2:3-4 says … “God our Savior … wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

(#5) Why do we have multiple Bible translations (like NIV, King James, etc)?

The O.T. was written in Hebrew. The N.T. was written in Greek. Jesus spoke Aramaic. Someone had to translate all these languages into English, but the order of words might differ slightly. “Jesus spoke to John & James.” and “James & John were spoken to by Jesus.” both say the same thing, and are both accurate.

Some translations of the Bible are easier to read, and use contemporary language. NIV is a good choice; but all translations are true & accurate.

(#6) What about those never heard the name of Jesus (babies & foreign tribes)?

God is fair. He won’t wrongly send someone to hell. But note that all foreign tribes & small children still have a concept of God. Did they pursue Him the best they knew how? Romans 1:20 says “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” We have to trust that God is able to reveal Himself to anyone, anywhere - but the responsibility ultimately falls back on us. Are we sharing with others, supporting missionaries, and praying for the lost? – Please also note that no one of adult age in America has (or will have) any excuse at Judgment. Even if your parents weren’t Christian, you had the opportunity to read a Bible, or attend church without your parents. Being lazy is not an excuse.

Also see question #71.

(#7) Does the Bible say anything about Dinosaurs?

Note that the word “dinosaur” didn’t exist 1000 years ago. They called these creatures different names, so you won’t find the word “dinosaur” in the Bible.

But check out Job 41:1 … “Can you catch Leviathan with a hook or put a noose around its jaw?” or Job 40:15-16 … “Take a look at Behemoth, which I made, just as I made you. It eats grass like an ox. Its tail is as strong as a cedar.” Some people will translate “Leviathan” as a crocodile and “Behemoth” as “hippopotamus”. However, if you read the descriptions of these animals, they are clearly not! –they clearly sound like huge dinosaur creatures!

(#8) Evolution vs. Creation

Evolution & Creation are both theories. Neither one can be scientifically proven. No human was there and saw it happen, nor can either be recreated. So, ultimately belief in either one takes faith. When someone talks about evolution, there are two kinds: Micro-evolution is the evolving of a species within its own species-like a bug that changes over time to adapt to its environment; this is a proven (fact). However, Macro-evolution is the evolving of one species into a whole other species; which has never been proven scientifically. Electron microscopes & Biochemistry have NEVER detected macro-evolution at even a molecular level (it’s only a theory, not a fact). Astrophysicists have proven that general relativity is a fact, which means time & space had a beginning – just like the Bible says. The Bible teaches that God created the heavens and the earth and everything else, including people, but mankind was created differently than all other things. God “breathed the breath of life” into them. Some people say that Macro-evolution is the way that God chose to create the world. This isn't compatible with scripture.

(#9) Is all sin forgivable?

Yes. Jesus forgave the crucified robber (Luke 23:43). And even the Old Testament’s most respected prophet, Moses, was guilty of murder (and was reconciled). – Anyone can be forgiven if they earnestly seek redemption. The Bible does mention something called the “unforgiveable sin” (Mark 3),

but that is to “persist in your slanders against God's Holy Spirit” … in other words, to never accept the holiness of God. If you ever accept Christ into your heart, you are no longer guilty of the “unforgiveable sin.”

(#10) What about my Jewish/Muslim friends?

All humans are sinners (even Anne Frank, and Gandhi). All sin needs a blood sacrifice (the Jews knew this, and practiced this for centuries). Jesus died for our sins as my sacrifice. What sacrifice do the others have? They can’t just “be given” salvation, and God can’t just “forget” their sins … they must have a meaningful/proper sacrifice. That’s why even Jews & Muslims need Jesus. – It’s not enough to just be a “good person,” because even one sin will separate you from a perfect/holy God (James 2:10).

(#11) Is war murder? What about the death of Bin Laden?

One of the 10 Commandments is “Thou shall not murder.” Is war a premeditated & intentional act of murder, or simply self-defense? Each war is different, and needs to be evaluated individually. God allowed some wars in the Old Testament because it was for the greater good, and necessary for worldwide Justice. – If we hadn’t stood up to appose Hitler, very bad things would have continued to take place. Even though all war/death is awful to God, it is sometimes the better choice than allowing unhindered evil. This is called the “lesser of two evils.” – Also note that when we raided Bin Laden’s compound, we did NOT intend to assassinate him, we wanted to capture him alive so he could be brought to justice in a court of law. But he chose to refuse being captured, and our soldiers defended themselves.

(#12) What about other Christian denominations (Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans)?

Before 1517, all Christians belonged to only one church. Then started the Protestant Revolution, and creation of denominations. All “orthodox” (mainline, Bible-believing) Christian denominations are going to Heaven. The differences are in what we practice – not what we believe. Some denominations might only do communion once-a-month, others do it every week. Some have classic hymns, others have modern worship. Some only baptize adults, others baptize children. – So, all of them follow the Bible, but make slight differences in the way they practice our faith.

(#13) Do animals go to heaven?

Because animals do not have free-will decision making (the essence of a soul), they can not accept Christ as their savior. But, I have faith that heaven will meet all our needs, and be awesome in every way. – If you need a dog in heaven for it to meet your needs, we’ll have to wait & see … lol.

(#14) Is it a sin to choose NOT to share our faith?

Matthew 28:19 tells us to share our faith. And James 4:17 says if you know “the right thing to do, and do not do it, to him it is sin.”

(#15) Why did God create different languages?

Before Genesis 11, everyone spoke the same language. In verse 9, God created different languages as a result/consequence of the sin at Babel.

(#16) What do we tell a friend who has doubts about God?

Doubts are common. Even the disciple Thomas doubted if Jesus could really resurrect after the crucifixion (John 20:25). – The important thing is to ask what they are doubting. If you can discover a specific question they have, then we can give them the answer they are looking for so they will no longer doubt. That’s what happened with Thomas, and his response when he met Jesus after the resurrection was “my Lord and my God!”

(#17) How do I share my faith with my parents?

Even if you have Christian parents, sharing something personal might be awkward. I’d imagine any parent (Christian, or non church go-er) would like to talk & share with their child. Just pick a good time. Not while mom is cooking, or dad is doing the taxes (they may be distracted). The car is a good time. Start with an easy question like: “Do you want to hear what we talked about at youth group?” or “Can I ask you a Bible question?” or “What do you believe about God?” – then bring in your own thoughts and opinions. But remember this, the most important thing you can do is to truly live out your faith in front of your parents. If they see a changed life in you: quick to honor & obey them, loving toward your siblings, not seeking your way all the time ... then they will be much more likely to listen to you about your faith in Jesus, or even ask you about it, because they know you really believe it.

(#18) What is Confirmation?

“Confirm” means to acknowledge or verify. Because our church baptizes babies & children, those children will confirm their baptism promises when they are older. It’s kind of like baptism-part-two. – On Confirmation day (after a few weeks or classes), the student will stand up in front of the church and publically acknowledge & verify that they are a Christian and understand our faith.

(#19) If I accept Christ, but keep on sinning, will I go to hell?

Romans 6:1 talks about Christians that keep on sinning. – We are all sinners, and probably going to sin again; but we should never intentionally & willingly try to sin more now that we are forgiven. Jesus has died for our sins past and future, but we should seek to imitate Christ as much as we can (not be rebels & sinners). – As long as we have an active relationship with Christ, even if we sin, we are covered & forgiven.

(#20) Why doesn’t God heal people who have cancer?

God can, and sometimes does. I’ve heard of some miraculous healings. But often God doesn’t intervene in the course of nature (earthquakes, etc). – That’s doesn’t mean God caused the cancer. It simply means He allows nature to proceed. – If we had perfect lives without any drama/pain, then we would never need God, or pray to Him.

(#21) Can you go to hell, and get a second-chance later?

No. The Bible is pretty clear we make that decision while living on earth. – If God allowed us to see hell first, then a lot of us would lead sinful/selfish lives (like Hitler, Bin Laden, etc), then go to hell, then accept Christ and go to heaven. That’s not fair. – For a parable, check out Luke 16:19-31.

(#22) How important is going to church?

Church does not get you to heaven (only Jesus does that); but church teaches, encourages, & strengthens you as a Christian. You are often vulnerable and ill-prepared to share your faith if you stop attending. / Church is about worshipping God with other believers. This blesses God. So the question really needs to be: “How important is it to honor the God of the universe with His people?” Look at Hebrews 10:25

(#23) What if I don’t “feel” Christ?

God is with you weather you “feel” Him or not. Often I forget the moon is above my head until the sun goes down; but it was always there. – James 4:8 says … “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” If you feel far from Christ, start seeking Him by reading your Bible or worshipping.

(#24) Will I be an angel in heaven? What will we look like?

You will not be an angel. They are a different creation than humans. Just like a monkey will never become an elephant. – The harder question is what we will look like. I’ve never been to heaven, and we only get a few clues. 2 Corinthians 5:1-3 and  2 Peter 1:13 says our present body is only a "tent" which we will put aside. Although we do not know exactly what our new bodies will be like, we know that they will be like Jesus. (1 John 3:2-3).

(#25) What if I believe in God, but not in Jesus Christ?

Not quite good enough. Check out James 2:19 … “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that, and shudder.” – In other words, even Satan believes in God, and he is certainly not going to be in heaven. We need to worship, submit to & accept Jesus Christ as our Lord. God is very clear that the only way to come to Him is by surrendering to His Son Jesus. So, if you believe in a god but not in Jesus, then the god you are believing in is NOT the God of the Bible - it is a false god, one that either you or someone else made up to fit their own beliefs.

(#26) What do the words “heathen” and “atheist” mean?

A Heathan is an unconverted person that does not acknowledge the God of the Bible (the same as a Pagan). An Atheist is a person who denies the existence of any supreme being. – And I might as well add “Agnostic,” which means someone who has severe doubts, but still might be convinced that God is real as described in the Bible.

(#27) Why do we call Jesus the “Son of God” if He was God?

The term "Son of God" refers to a special relationship that Jesus has with God the Father. It does not mean Jesus is “less than” or “from” God the Father. Jesus was 100% God, and 100% man at the same time. Jesus was “begotten” of God, meaning that He is all God, but He is not all of God. - - Let’s say you blew a huge bubble out of soapy water. Then let’s say that you swiped the bubble with the plastic blowing-wand and you caused another bubble to form from the first one. We could call that a “begotten” bubble. It is all bubble, (made from the same stuff), but it is not all of that bubble. - - This was a special relationship that has never happened before or since, so it's hard to fully understand.

(#28) What is the “rapture,” and what can I expect?

1 Thessalonians 4:17 describes that all Christians will be gathered together in the air to meet Christ when he returns to earth. – It will happen quickly & unexpectedly. The Christians that are on earth to experience the “rapture” will not die, but go straight to heaven.

(#29) When the people went to crucify Jesus, why didn’t he just prove He was God?

They asked Jesus to do exactly that, and come off the cross & prove He was God in Matthew 27:39-41. – But we have to realize that Jesus needed to go to the cross to pay for the sins of the world. He chose to stay there. He could have proved He was God, and removed himself from the cross, but we would all still be sinners destined for hell in need of a Savior.

(#30) Does God hear my prayers in English?

Because of the power & omnipotence of God, He understands all languages. – But check out 1 Corinthians 13:1 … Did Paul mean that the Angels speak their own language?

(#31) Why aren’t all my prayers answered?

Partially to teach us patience. If God answered all prayers instantly, the world would be weird. What if I pray for a million pizzas? What if I pray that it rains skittles? It would make the world chaos. / Secondly, check out James 4:3 … some prayers aren’t answered because they are selfish requests. If all prayers were answered, God would be serving you, and be a slave to your desires. / Thirdly, because He knows better. If I pray that the hot-chick in math class becomes my wife; God might know that someone better is waiting for me in my future. He answers our prayers in a way that is best for us.

(#32) What color was Jesus? White?

Jesus was born in what is now Palestine, between Egypt & Syria. He was almost assuredly not white.

(#33) How does God “speak” to me?

There are three common forms of God’s communication. God speaks to people though His written word (the Bible). He speaks to you through the counsel other Christians and pastors. Also, He might use His Holy Spirit to direct you, or inspire you internally. – If you think God’s Holy Spirit is talking to you, ask yourself (#1) Is this direction consistent with God’s character? Because He would never ask you to sin. (#2) Does this bring Him glory? If so, it might be a word from the Lord.

(#34) Do only Christians go to heaven?

All humans are sinners. No imperfect sinner would be in heaven. Therefore only people with a sacrifice, or substitution for their sins will be in heaven. Right now, Jesus is the only sacrifice that God would accept as a payment for sins (a squirrel wouldn’t count). – Therefore only people that believe and accept Jesus as their sacrifice have their sins paid for.

(#35) Are all sins counted the same?

James 2:10 says even one sin will separate you from a perfect/holy God. It doesn’t matter if you’ve committed one small sin, or a thousand huge sins. You are an imperfect sinner starting with the first sin you commit. To God, you are either perfect, or sinful (there’s no in between).

(#36) What is baptism? How important is it?

Jesus got baptized, and he encouraged us to baptize others (Matthew 28:19). – After we have accepted Christ, and are assured of our salvation, baptism is encouraged to publically profess our faith in Him. It is an outward & visible sign of an inwards & spiritual grace.

(#37) Can I be 100% sure of my salvation?

Yes. The work of salvation has already been completed. It’s not like running a marathon, and you have doubts if you’re going to finish. It is done, and all we have to do is trust Jesus, and surrender to Him. If you accept Christ, you are 100% saved. See Romans 10:9. / 1st John 5:13 says: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” – note: If someone truly has been saved, then it will be clear by the way they are living this out or seeking to live this out in their lives.

(#38) Can I share Jesus at school?

Yes. In America we have freedom of religion. Students may read their Bibles, pray at meals & tests, and generally share your faith when not engaged in school activities. You may not be disruptive or harass another student. – You may even distribute flyers with Bible verses on them if it is not littering, graffiti, or forcefully administered. / These are your rights.

(#39) Who is the antichrist?

1 John 2 describes this man as a leader who fulfills Biblical prophecies concerning an adversary of Christ, while resembling Him in a deceptive manner. The antichrist will seemingly provide for the needs of the people but deny the salvation of Jesus. We do not know the antichrist’s name, or if he’s on earth yet.

(#40) Why is 666 a bad number?

Revelation 13:16-18 says it is the "mark of the beast." - In the future revelation, there will be "no rest" and torment for those that have it tattoo'd to them.

(#41) Why was it okay for David to have more than one wife?

David had several wives. But after his sin with Bathsheba, David repented (1 Samuel 12:13). Also ... God sometimes allowed men in the Old Testament to have more than one wife, however it was never His desire. He established marriage in the Garden of Eden as one man and one woman for life. Just as it is not God’s desire that anyone get divorced, but He allows it. It is always wiser, healthier, and more blessed to follow God’s plan and not our own.

(#42) How should I pray? What’s the best way?

There are four types of prayer: Praise, Repenting, Asking & Yielding. (note that spells P.R.A.Y.) - We need to thank & praise God just as much as requesting blessings. Repenting means acknowledging & asking forgiveness for our sins. Yielding is the big one most people forget; it means seeking God's desires, not your own. Jesus prayed: "yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42), And the Lord's Prayer says, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done."

(#43) What does the Bible say about same-gender relationships?

1 Thessalonians 4:3 says that all sex before marriage is not part of God’s plan for your life. Romans 1:27 says that homosexuality is not part of God’s original plan.

(#44) Is there sex/marriage/baby-making in heaven?

Not really. That's why we say "till death do us part" in our wedding vows. Jesus says, "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven." (Matthew 22:23-30)

(#45) Is Hell real? Is it described in the Bible?

The Bible says Hell is just as real as Heaven. It’s described as “eternal fire” (Matthew 25:41), “unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12), a place of “torment” (Luke 16:23-24), “everlasting destruction” (2 Thessalonians 1:9), and a “lake of burning sulfur” where the wicked are “tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).

(#46) How important is tithing?

Tithing is an Old Testament concept. Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle/Temple. The New Testament does not designate a percentage of income a person should set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Sometimes that means giving more than 10 percent; sometimes that may mean giving less. Remember: “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

(#47) Why did God create people?

The short answer to the question “why did God create us?” is “for His pleasure.” Colossians 1:16 says: “All things were created by him and for him.” Being created for God’s pleasure does not mean humanity was made to entertain God or provide Him with amusement. God is a creative Being, and it gives Him pleasure to create. God is a personal Being, and it gives Him pleasure to have other beings He can have a genuine relationship with.

(#48) Should I pray to Jesus, or the Father?

All prayer should be directed to our triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that we can pray to one or all three, because all three are one.

Praying in Jesus’ name means praying with His authority and asking God the Father to act upon our prayers because we come in the name of His Son, Jesus.

(#49) Does God punish people with earthquakes, etc? Does God punish our sin?

In order to answer this question, we first need to distinguish between punishment and discipline. For believers in Jesus, all our sin – past, present, and future – has already been punished on the cross. Discipline, then, is how God lovingly turns His children from rebellion to obedience. / God does discipline, but not by using death (earthquakes, etc).

(#50) How do we know Jesus really rose from the dead?

First, Jesus was definitely dead, because when the Roman soldier stabbed Jesus' side, water & blood poured out (which proved his heart had stopped pumping). Second, We know His body wasn’t simply stolen because His tomb was sealed by the Roman Governor & watched by guards. Third, the Bible records that there were over 500 eye-witnesses to his resurrection. Fourth, we know that before Jesus' resurrection, all of His disciples were running scared & abandoned Him. However, only three days later, they stopped being scared and were telling everyone of Him. They all began preaching boldly about Jesus, with no fear for their own lives. This is pretty straight-forward evidence that they must have seen Him alive. Our only option is that His body really Resurrected.

(#51) Why should I pray if God already knows my needs

First, we pray because God commands us to pray (Philippians 4:6-7).

Second, prayer should not be seen as our means of getting God to do our will on earth, but rather as a means of getting God's will done on earth. Third, for situations in which we do not know God's will specifically, prayer is a means of discerning His will. Fifth, a lack of prayer demonstrates a lack of faith and a lack of trust in God’s Word. We pray to demonstrate our faith in God … Ultimately, prayer builds our relationship with God.

I know my mom loves me, but it’s still nice to hear every once in a while.

(#52) Why is the earth broken? Why do we have disease & earthquakes?

Remember that God originally created the world perfect & peaceful. It was sin that entered the world that created brokenness & turmoil. / In modern times, it is distressing that natural disasters are often termed “acts of God” while no “credit” is given to God for years, decades, or even centuries of peaceful weather. The universe operates under the laws of nature; most natural disasters are a result of these laws at work; not the specific will of God. If the time is now 8:00 o’clock, you can’t be mad at the clock, it’s the natural progression of time.

(#53) How do you explain God to someone who’s brand-new & confused?

Start with a concept they can grasp. I’d start with Jesus. Do they believe that He really existed; lived & died in Jerusalem? He claimed that He was God. Is their opinion that  Jesus was a liar, or a lunatic? Start the conversation with what they already believe.

(#54) Can I share my faith at school?

In America, students can carry & read their Bibles, say grace before meals, pray before tests, etc. Generally, students may share their faith or pray in a nondisruptive manner when not engaged in school activities or instruction.

(#55) I have just put my faith in Jesus…now what?

1. Make sure you understand salvation.

2. Find a good church that teaches the Bible.

3. Set aside time each day to focus on God.

4. Develop relationships with people who can help you spiritually.

5. Publicly proclaim/share your new faith in Christ and your commitment to follow Him.

(#56) Why is homosexuality wrong?

Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. Yes, some people may have homosexual tendencies, but I have tendencies to “lose my temper.” If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger/rage, does that make it right for him to give into those desires? Of course not. The same is true with homosexuality. We still invite, welcome & love homosexuals into our community, but don’t approve of the practice.

(#57) Are there really “good Christians” and “bad Christians”?

We’re all sinners who need the grace of Jesus, so really there are just Christians and non-Christians. What some people call “bad Christians” are people who have accepted Jesus as their savior, but have no desire to make Jesus the Lord of their life, or become a true disciple of Jesus’.

(#58) What steps should I take when sharing with someone who doesn’t want to hear about my faith?

1. Pray for them.

2. Invite them to have a conversation about Jesus.

3. Invite them to church.

4. Try to answer their doubts or questions. Listen to them.

5. Realize that you can not “make” someone a Christian, or force your opinions on them.

(#59) How is God going to end the earth?

The book of Revelation has a lot to say. Matthew 24:5-8 also gives us some important clues so we can discern the approach of the end times. The entire “end times” will take over 1000 years (it’s process, not a single event). When completed, Revelation 21:1 says, “the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.”

(#60) How do I know if I’ve really accepted Christ, and am a Christian?

When you accept Christ, you are sealed with the Holy Spirit & recorded in the “book of life.” (see: Revelation 20:15). Romans 10:9 says, If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved … if you confess & believe, then you are a Christian. You don’t have to “earn” it by completing a bunch of tasks. You can’t be “almost a Christian.” You are either saved or un-saved. See question #37.

(#61) How should I respond if my parents attend a different church/denomination?

There will be members of all Bible-believing denominations in heaven (Baptists, Catholics, Lutherans, etc.) – See question #12 – if you parents attend a different church, engage them in conversation. Ask them what they’re learning, and how they are growing in worship & discipleship. Share your experiences, and enjoy each other’s testimonies. You might even want a rotation (if you come with me one week, I’ll go with you one week).

(#62) My dad prays a lot, but doesn’t go to Church. What should I tell him?

Similar to question #61, follow-up with questions. Has he accepted Christ as his savior, or does he just throw up random prayers? Ask him to share his testimony with you. Does he understand the value of church? You may want to invite him to a special service with you. Also see question #22.

(#63) I was baptized in a Catholic church. Do I need to be re-baptized?

We believe in only one baptism being necessary. You can have a service of “remembering your baptism,” or you can publically confirm your baptism, but all baptisms done in a Bible-believing church are true baptisms.

(#64) Why do we say “Amen” after prayer?

The word is a declaration of affirmation. English translation of the word means “truly” or “I agree.”

(#65) How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit enters the heart of all believers at Salvation (when you accept Jesus). We then learn to listen & yield to the Holy Spirit’s direction. Similar to asking “what would Jesus do?,” being filled with the Holy Spirit is about letting God have control over your life.

(#66) Are the angels that watch over us our relatives who have died?

Nope. Angels are a different creation than humans (just like elephants & monkeys are different). Humans go to be with God in heaven, and Angels interact with the world on a spiritual level.

(#67) Why are their other religions?

Some religions formed out of ignorance (they wanted to worship God & didn’t know how). Some formed because of selfish leaders (they wanted the attention & power). All other religions are “works based” (you have to earn salvation). Ours is “faith based.” All other religions are man trying to discover God. Christianity is God leaving heaven to commune with humans.

(#68) What is the Lutheran church? It doesn’t come from the word Lucifer, does it?

Nope. The Lutheran church is the mainline Christian church that was founded by Martin Luther in 1517. The word Lucifer is the proper name for Satan. Very different.

(#69) Once you accept God, do you have to do it again & again?

Christianity is a process, not a destination. You should continue to learn, and continue to serve Jesus all your life; but on the day you honestly accepted Jesus into your heart you were sealed with the Holy Sprit forever. (see Ephesians 1:13).

(#70) Am I a “bad Christian” if I don’t read the Bible every day?

The Bible is God’s love-letter to humans. It’s the way we get to know Him. Reading the Bible isn’t necessary for salvation; but it’s how we know God’s will for our lives, and God’s character. We should want to get to know our creator, but there is not a magic formula for how much Bible you should read.

(#71) What happens to children who die before they accept Christ?

There is not a clear bible verse to quote; but the character of God is to be fair and just. It is commonly accepted that God has grace for those who have no possible ability to profess their faith because they die too young; but we have no idea what age you become accountable. We have to trust that God will make the right decision.

(#72) Why do bad things happen if God is watching over us?

God promised that He is with us. God promised that Jesus made a way for us to experience perfect eternal life. God never promised us a grief-free life. In fact it’s written: “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. (Matthew 5:45)” / Because you get sick or in a car wreck does not mean that God doesn’t love you. That is part of living in a broken world. But one day: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Revelation 21:4).

(#73) My parents are Catholic, will they be in heaven?

Salvation (heaven) isn’t based on what church you attend, but rather what you confess & believe. In question #61, I wrote, “There will be members of all Bible-believing denominations in heaven.” It’s fine if your parents attend a different church, but ask them about their testimony. Only those who have personally accepted Jesus into their hearts will be in heaven.

(#74) Why does God give people sickness?
I don’t personally think God afflicts us with sickness, but rather sickness is a consequence of living in a broken & sinful world. If my best friend has a cold, and I share their drink & catch their cold, that wasn’t because God hates me. It’s because that’s how germs spread. Of course God disciplines us to bring about sanctification, but I don’t think He afflicts us with cancer, etc.

(#75) Why is the world so prejudice & divided?

I could point to the story of the Tower of Babel, but I think the real answer is simply selfishness. Humans want to keep what they have rather than share. They are jealous of those who have more. Prejudice & division are products of sinfulness. It is not God’s will (as seen with the story of the Good Samaritan).

(#76) When someone sneezes, how important is it to say “God bless you”?

I think it’s nice, and shows good manners, but I don’t think it’s necessary or commanded by God. Wikipedia says it was something started during the Bubonic Plague.

(#77) What is Satan thinking? Doesn’t he know he’s going to lose?

The forces of evil have assuredly read the Bible. They know how their reign is going to end, but they also know they have control & free-will for now.

(#78) Why doesn’t God answer my realistic prayers?

See question #31.

I’ll add that God does answer prayers, but the answer might be “no” or “not right now.” We have to trust that He is doing what’s best for creation. I could argue that if you were truly in-tune with God’s will, and prayed for things that God wanted (instead of your own desires), He would answer every time. / This is a tough question that requires we trust that God in His decision making.

(#79) How do I make more room for the Holy Spirit?

See question #65. The short answer is Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

(#80) What makes Christianity different than other religions?

See question #67.

Ours is the only religion that has a leader that was God-himself.

Ours is faith-based (not work-based); Jesus paid the price & did the work.

Ours is based on God desiring a relationship with man.

(#81) What’s the best way to have a daily devotion?

This could be different for each person based on their personality & character; but it would all start with wanting to know God personally. Reading about God’s mercy in the Bible, worshipping Him in whatever way makes sense to you, praying & having conversation with our creator. / You’ll want a plan and a process, setting aside time each day instead of it just “accidentally” happening. Then, focus and get some materials (a Bible, or a notebook, or a devotional book). Try to apply what you read in the Bible, or share your findings with an accountability partner.

(#82) How do I convince my friends that the Bible is true?

You can’t really force anyone to believe, you can only be faithful to present logical and faithful answers. Start by listening to them. Find out why they don’t believe. Is it because of a specific verse, or a misconception they heard from a friend? Each conversation should be in response to your friend’s doubts. / Our Bible has been researched for hundreds of years. If it were ever disproven, or found to be false, then the findings would have become big news and the Bible would have lost credibility. That hasn’t ever happened, which is in itself proof that it must be true.

(#83) Does it matter what age you accept Christ?

Nope. The thief on the other cross accepted Jesus minutes before his death. My 3-year old son prays to Jesus the best way he knows how at his age. / But you shouldn’t wait. You don’t know when the end will come. Don’t say to yourself “I’ll do it tomorrow,” for you’re not guaranteed a tomorrow.

(#84) What is I accept Jesus, then sin right before I die?

We have to assume God is fair. If I’ve been a life-long devoted Christian, and say a 4-letter word as I get in a fatal car wreck, I’m sure God will understand. Jesus’ sacrifice counts for all sins past, present, and future. The goal is to continue pursuing Jesus until our last breaths.

(#85) Why doesn’t God come visit people on earth anymore?

Even in Bible times it was rare (maybe once every 50 years?). He might still be visiting people in other countries in miraculous ways that we’re not aware of. But the better answer is that God has completed much of what He had to. Jesus already came to teach us, and die for our sins. Much of the work on earth is finished. / Now we have a daily relationship to God through prayer.

(#86) What is the Illuminati, and is it real?

Not real in the way you think. It was a private club of five people in 1776. By 1785 it was outlawed & disbanded. They have no relevance or power.

(#87) Why do some “Christians” make fun of serious Christians who try to share their faith and preach the Gospel?

Great question, but hard to answer because each person has their own motives. I would imagine the so-called “Christians” who make-fun do not understand the Gospel. They only call themselves “Christians” because of their parents, or because they attend church, but not because they have a personal relationship with the living God. Some of these so-called “Christians” still value popularity and the things of the world rather than salvation & the kingdom of God.

(#88) How do you respond to someone who says “God is fake”?

With love. Every conversation we have should highlight the love of God, rather than a debate. Listen to them, and find the root of their belief. Is it because the Bible confuses them, or because something bad happened to them? Patiently listen to their argument so you know how to pray for them, and intelligently answer their unbelief.

(#89) What is the purpose of animals?

God is a creator, and it brought Him joy to create animals. He left man in charge over his earthly creation. We are to respect his creation, but also wisely use it for our needs & purposes. Bible principles allow us to kill animals to provide food and clothing, or to protect ourselves from harm. (Genesis 3:21; 9:3; Exodus 21:28). Cruelty has no place in God’ purpose.

(#90) Is Mormonism a version of Christianity?

Nope. Mormons teach that Jesus was born as a result of Mary having sex. They also teach Jesus was married. Anytime you start changing details of the Gospel (even if the differences are small), you stop being an orthodox Christian.

(#91) Does God love everyone? Even Satan, Hitler, & Judas?

1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” God loves everyone, and everything He created, but He’ not always happy with the decisions they make. I love my son, but he may make bad choices. God wants redemptions & sanctification for all of His creation, but that might not happen because they have free-will.

(#92) Did people who believed in God before Jesus go to heaven?

God is fair, and the original covenant/contract/testament would be accepted if they were faithful Jews practicing the 10 Commandments. I’m sure Abraham and Moses are in heaven because they pursued a relationship with God the best they knew how under their old information about God. The real question is “did Old Testament Jews go straight to heaven when they died, or were people not allowed into heaven until Jesus finished his work on earth?” – That we will never know until we get to heaven.

(#93) Did anything exist before God? Did anything create God?

God said “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 21:6), and “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last” (Revelation 22:13). We are told nothing existed before God, and He is eternal in both directions.

(#94) What is the Book of Enoch?

The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work, (probably the great-grandfather of Noah). It is not part of the biblical canon as used by Jews, or Christians.

(#95) Can you pray to God from Hell?

The worst part about Hell is the absence of God. If you choose to reject His presence on earth, He will continue to hid His presence from you in Hell.

(#96) How do we know God is real?

We can’t see the wind, but we see the effects of the wind (leaves blowing, etc). Similarly, we see the effects & works of God all around us. Astrophysicists have proven that general relativity is a fact, which means time & space indeed had a beginning, which points to an intelligent designer. Even if all the parts of a watch were put in a bag & shaken, it could not form a perfectly working watch without a creator.

(#97) If God can do anything; could He choose do bad or sin?

While God is omnipotent (having all the power of the universe), He also has rules and a specific character He can not contradict. God’s character is to always do good, and always love. / Similar to the fact that darkness is the absence of light, and cold is the absence of heat, so sin is the absence of God! So God absolutely can't sin because it is directly contrary to who He is.

(#98) If the Garden of Eden was perfect, how did Satan get in?

The Garden wasn’t “perfect,” but rather it was “good” and “unbroken.” God gave Adam, Eve, & Satan all free-will to make their own decisions.

(#99) Where did the Garden of Eden go?

Some people think it was destroyed in the Flood; others think Revelation 2:7 describes that the Garden may have been transplanted by God into Heaven. But we know that all sinners were expelled from the Garden, so even if it exists, we’re not allowed to find or enter it.

(#100) When Jesus prayed to God, was He praying to Himself?

See Question #27.

Jesus prayed both to have the Father’s blessing, but also as an example for His disciples. The mystery of the Trinity is that there is only one God, but Jesus (who was God) always wanted to commune with the rest of the Trinity.

(#101) Why doesn’t God end suffering?

Revelation 7:7, and Revelation 21:4 both say that God fully intends to one day end suffering, but until then Romans 5:3-4 says “we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

(#102) What does it mean to accept Jesus?

The word "accept" really isn't used in the Bible. A better phrase could be "trust and confess" in Jesus (see Romans 10:9). It is easy to believe that a guy named Jesus really existed in Jerusalem and died on a cross. It's much harder to surrender to His authority, and live your life for His glory. A prayer of "acceptance" might look something like this:

Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner in need of forgiveness, and there's nothing I can do to earn it. Thank you for paying the penalty and dying on the cross in my place. I invite You into my heart to be both my Savior and Lord. I surrender to Your will, and desire to be your disciple. I want this to be more than a one-time decision, but a rather a relationship that lasts for all eternity. Thank you, in Jesus name. Amen.
